Who We Are

Our Roots

The Naomi Society began in August of 1983 when a small group of concerned citizens consisting of nurses, lawyers, homemakers, business professionals, academics, clergy and social workers met to discuss the problem of family violence. It was from their shared concern and desire to provide services to abused women that the Naomi Society was created.

1984

Services were implemented in May and offered to women, children and adolescent girls and boys up to the age of 16.

1987

Naomi Society became a member of the Transition House Association of Nova Scotia and was incorporated in the Societies Act.

2008

Naomi Society celebrated its 25th year anniversary and continues to offer services and supports to the women and children of Antigonish and Guysborough Counties.
